Tibet Relief Fund is delighted to have hosted a groundbreaking graphic design art exhibition and auction at London’s prestigious ‘The Gallery in Cork Street’ from 18-29 August.

The 12-day exhibition, organised in conjunction with DAHRA (Designers Against Human Rights Abuse), featured an eclectic mix of stunning images: 52 pieces of original artwork, created by top graphic designers from around the world. Each piece, motivated by human rights issues facing Tibetans today, was sold at a special auction on Thursday 27 August with all proceeds going to Tibet Relief Fund.

Not only did this top Mayfair gallery generously donated its space for the exhibition’s duration, but each contributing artist donated their work to raise money for Tibet Relief Fund’s lifesaving healthcare, education and development projects for Tibetans in India, Nepal and Tibet; which sets up and maintains schools, medical facilities, water supplies, self-sustainability and sponsorship programs for over a thousand Tibetan children, monks and the elderly.

The Tibetans’ plight was brought to the attention of DAHRA founder, Rishi Sodha by an art teacher at school who was a Tibet supporter. Rishi, a graphic designer, set up DAHRA in 2008 to promote and raise awareness amongst those involved in the creative industry of their social, political and ethical responsibilities.

For this project he has brought on board such names as Si Scott, Alex Trochut, Shane Mielke, Jonathan Barnbrook, Research Studios, Tokyo Plastic and Adhemas Batista to heighten the plight of Tibet throughout the graphic design world as well as the general public.

The artwork has also been made into a limited edition book, Designers Against Tibetan Abuse, which can be purchased from Tibet Relief Fund online here or by calling the office on 020 7272 1414. All proceeds from this book also benefit Tibet Relief Fund.

The opening of the exhibition also launched a second publication from DAHRA in collaboration with Tibet Relief Fund. Called 3 Minutes, this is another innovative publication using typography to tell the stories ten Tibetans.

The idea behind the book was to show the full extent of the Tibetan conflict through diverse and extremely powerful 3-minute interviews, each describing the 3 minutes that changed their lives. The result is a book made up of 10 beautifully designed booklets from some of the world's best designers showcasing stunning typography.

Thank you to everyone who came to the exhibition and auction and helped make this unique event a great success.

Our huge thanks go to The Gallery in Cork Street for donating the space, to all the contributing artists for donating their time and talents; and to Rishi Sodha for all his hard work.

Artist benefits Tibet Relief Fund ...

In 1974 artist Liliane Lijn made a card game between artists and art world professionals into a work of improvised theatre. In late July 2009 the idea was re-staged in front of a live audience at the ICA, with all proceeds coming to Tibet Relief Fund. Our sincere thanks to Liliane for her generosity.
