Empowering the Vision Project: an innovative programme that works to encourage, empower and give career skills and advice to young Tibetans.
Tibetan Homes Foundation: established in 1962, THF has given homes and education to thousands of Tibetan children after their perilous trek from Tibet. It also provides for elderly Tibetans who have no other family in exile.
Ngoenga School: a residential school whose mission is to care for and enhance the lives of disabled Tibetan children living in exile in India.
Medical Grants: a vital medical grants programme for elderly and poverty stricken Tibetans in four refugee communities in Nepal.
India
There are over 130,000 Tibetans living in India and Nepal, working hard to carve out a life in exile, who need your help. We fund many diverse projects in India, using your donations to target essential aid on those most in need, and to give Tibetans young and old the skills and confidence to build healthy and productive futures for themselves and their families. See the box on the right for some of the areas we support in India.
Nepal
A young Tibetan, embarking on the treacherous walk across the Himalayas into exile, puts himself at the mercy of the elements and his oppressors. Arriving safely across the border into Nepal is his first step on the road to religious and cultural freedom. Our work in Nepal provides medical and emotional support to Tibetans as they recover from the extreme physical and psychological trauma of their escape. In additon, we provide stipends for elderly Tibetans in Nepal, as well as a wide range of individual projects. See right for more details.
Tibet
It is Tibetans remaining inside Tibet who experience some of the harshest living conditions of all. In addition to the severe restrictions on their freedom to express their beliefs, these communities often suffer extreme physical hardship, poverty and poor health. Our work inside Tibet provides practical solutions to practical problems.
Sponsorship
Sponsoring individual Tibetans living in exile is one of Tibet Relief Funds’ biggest undertakings. We use sponsors’ donations to provide Tibetans with the education, life-skills and confidence they need to make the most of their potential.
