The information in this privacy policy relates to Tibet Relief Fund® (registered charity number 1061834). Tibet Relief Fund collects personal data in order to undertake various functions. In this policy we outline what information we collect, how we use that data and how you can contact us to change how we hold and manage your data.
We promise to respect any personal data you share with us and keep it safe. We aim to be clear when we collect your data and not do anything with it you would not reasonably expect. We will keep this policy updated to show you all the things we do with your personal information so that you can be confident when sharing your information with us that it will only be used for the purposes outlined here.
Tibet Relief Fund (The Charity) is fully committed to compliance with the requirements of regulation under the General Data Protection Regulation coming in to force on 25th May 2018. The Charity procedures aim to ensure that all beneficiaries, employees, contractors, agents, consultants, partners or other individuals who have access to any personal data held by or on behalf of The Charity, are fully aware of and abide by their duties and responsibilities.
Principles of GDPR
We aim to protect the security of your personal data as in line with the current Data Protection Act 1998 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations (PECR) 2003, including the requirements of the Telephone Preference Service, at all times. We aim to accomplish this by complying with the six data protection principles contained within the GDPR. Personal data shall be:
1) Processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner
2) Obtained for specified purposes and only processed in accordance with those purposes
3) Adequate, relevant and not excessive
4) Accurate and up-to-date
5) Not kept for longer than necessary
6) Processed with integrity and confidentiality.
For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, Tibet Relief Fund (The Charity) is the “data controller” of personal data about supporters, volunteers, beneficiaries and members of staff.
Tibet Relief Fund is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Transfer of data outside of the European Union
Tibet Relief Fund operates in the United Kingdom, and does not operate the processing of payments or donations from individuals outside of the European Union. Through our projects and charitable output we operate in India, Nepal and Tibet. Tibet Relief Fund is aware that countries outside the European Union have differing approaches to data privacy laws, and that enforcement may not be as robust as it is within Europe’s borders.
If you are a sponsor, some of your personal data will be shared with Tibet Relief Fund members in India, Nepal or Tibet, to enable the operation of these programmes. This information does not include financial details and is only ever shared in this way for defined purposes, namely to send those that you sponsor messages or programme updates from the country you support.
Organisations that Tibet Relief Fund works with – who process data – have verified their data processing standards meet the Data Protection regulations under European law, which sets out clear safeguards and transparency responsibilities for organisations processing data from EU members.
This will only occur when you request information or services relating to our operation in those territories.
Collection of personal data
We will only require you to provide us with the personal information appropriate for us to complete specific tasks, for example, when you make a donation to support our work, we require you to provide us with sufficient personal information so that we may process your donation, despatch a letter of thanks and a receipt to you and also so that we may contact you in the event of a problem or to draw your attention to related goods or services. You may provide us with additional information at your own discretion.
Use of your information and your preferences
We will use your information to provide and personalise our service. We will use your contact details to communicate with you.
We will use your information to send you offer and news about our products and services through our Enlightened Gifts shop. In the case of emailing these offers to you, we shall only do this when you have opted-in to receive those communications.
Please note that there may be instances where it may be necessary for us to communicate with you in relation to the processing of your data involving your support through a donation, in any event, for administrative or operational reasons relating to our services.
