Tibet Matters: Dr Roy Welford’s Bakhang Visit

Dr Roy Welford recently went on an amazing journey to visit Bakhang village in Nepal. Roy had donated £2,000 in memory of his wife Fee to help rebuild Bakhang School after the 2015 earthquakes destroyed it. The new school now carries a plaque dedicated to Fee. Roy loved visiting the school and even gave a speech in Nepali! We’re delighted that he got to meet the villagers and the children who are now benefiting from his generosity and Fee’s legacy.

Roy observed “Life is tough for the children and others in the village. Bakhang is a community still struggling to rebuild itself. It’s at quite a high elevation and is on the northeast side of the ridge so gets the worst of weathers in winter. The new school looks very impressive and the pupils seemed really happy to be at the school!”

Tibet Relief Fund is currently working with Build Up Nepal to rebuild eight houses for the most vulnerable families in the village. A huge thank you to all of you who gave to our spring appeal – we look forward to updating you on this project soon.
