Tibet Matters Annual Review: Teachers at Bakhang and Tsagam

Grant Amount: £1,800

The schools in Tsagam and Bakhang villages (in Nepal) are run by the Nepali government. The teachers supplied by the government are Nepali; they neither speak Tibetan nor practice Tibetan culture.

We provide an annual grant which covers the salary of two Tibetan teachers; one at Tsagam and one at Bakhang. Having Tibetan teachers helps with attendance levels as local parents can send their children to school without fear of them losing their language or heritage.

We have continued our support for the teachers this year with a grant of £1,800.
