Making momos with Alex Lobsang

Last autumn we started a brand new fundraising event – a momo workshop! Seven lucky guests spent the afternoon learning to make this classic Tibetan snack in the beautiful surroundings of Clementi House in west London.

The workshop was hosted by Tibetan chef, Alex Lobsang who, whilst teaching us, told us how he grew up making momos. It’s very much a team effort, and he made sure we were all put to work chopping and rolling! Of course the hard bit is actually constructing the momo – fortunately Alex and his sister Caroline were on hand to show us how it’s done. After we had all mastered the making, it was time to steam them and then enjoy the fruits of our labour – they tasted great!

“We learnt how to make momos from a charming brother and sister duo who, with the aid of their Tibetan father, had grown up with Tibetan food as a staple. It was a good laugh trying to imitate their practiced hand at shaping our little dumplings.” – Kharissa

Thanks to Airbnb Social Impact Experiences, 100% of the ticket price supported our work. We plan to hold another momo workshop this spring. Email Caroline at [email protected] to register your interest and we’ll let you know as soon as the date is fixed!
