Stipends for the elderly

Location Dekyiling settlement, Dehra Dun, India
Type Elderly
Amount £2,000 annually

Background
Dekyiling Tibetan settlement was set up near Dehra Dun, India, in the early 1980’s. It was initially established to give homes to Tibetans who had to Bhutan following the change in government policy there. The settlement started out with just 720 settlers but is now home to nearly 2,000!

Elders now make up a large part of the community with many only speaking Tibetan, having had no opportunity to get an education when they first arrived. Today, many of these elders are no longer able to work and often struggle to support themselves and their families.

Project
Each year, we send a grant of £2,000 to the elderly Tibetans in Dekyiling. This is enough to provide 18 people with a regular income.

With this money they can be sure they have enough to eat, a comfortable place to live and medical care when they need it.
