Yama's Sponsorship Journey

From Student to Yoga Teacher:

How Sponsorship Helped Yama Achieve Her Dreams

Education can open doors to new opportunities, helping young people develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to shape their own futures. Through Tibet Relief Fund's sponsorship programme, supporters help Tibetan children in exile access education and work towards their aspirations. For Yama, the support of her sponsor helped her progress from school to university and pursue her dream of becoming a yoga teacher.

With the generous support of her sponsor, Yama completed her school at Tibetan Children's Village (TCV) Bylakuppe in India. Having completed this important stage of her education, she went on to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration at the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Studies in Bangalore, continuing to build the foundations for her future.

After graduating, Yama decided to explore another passion by undertaking yoga teacher training. With a vision of one day opening her own yoga centre, she took another step towards turning her dream into reality, developing the skills to share her knowledge and practice with others.

Today, Yama is back in Bylakuppe, where she teaches yoga to monks, nuns, and others in the Tibetan settlement. Her journey has brought her back to the community in which she studied, where she can now share her skills and contribute to the lives of others. What began as a personal ambition has become an opportunity to put her learning into practice and help others experience the benefits of yoga.

Reflecting on her achievements, Yama recognises the important role that TCV and Tibet Relief Fund have played throughout her journey. She describes the support she recieved from TRF and her sponsor as instrumental in helping her become independent and pursue her goals.

“With the kind support from TRF and my sponsor, I am able to stand on my own feet,” Yama explains. “My sponsor's support helped me receive an enriching education and achieve my aspirations.”

Yama's story demonstrates how the impact of education can extend far beyond the classroom. The opportunity to study, gain qualifications and develop new skills has enabled her to pursue a career she is passionate about and share her knowledge with her community. Her journey reflects what can become possible when young people are given the support and opportunities they need to realise their potential.

Through Tibet Relief Fund's sponsorship programme, sponsors help Tibetan children in exile access education and build a foundation for their futures. By standing alongside students throughout their educational journeys, sponsors can help them develop the confidence and skills to pursue their goals and shape their own paths.

Yama's journey is a powerful reminder that sponsorship is about more than supporting a child through school. It is about creating opportunities, nurturing potential, and helping young people build a future of their own.
