Support a Tibetan Organisation
Support Tibetan Communities in Exile in India and Nepal
Across India and Nepal, Tibetan schools, monasteries, nunneries and homes provide much more than education and care. They are places where Tibetan language, culture, knowledge and traditions continue to be passed from one generation to the next.
Tibet Relief Fund has long-standing relationships with organisations supporting Tibetan children, monks, nuns and elders living in exile.
You can choose to support one of these organisations through a regular or one-off donation. Rather than supporting one individual, your donation will contribute to the wider organisation and the people who live, learn or are cared for there.
If you choose to give regularly, we will send you an annual update from the organisation you support, so you can hear about its work and the people who are part of its community.
Choose Where Your Support Makes a Difference
Pal Ewam Namgyal Monastic School, Nepal
Supporting young monks and preserving Tibetan Buddhist education
Pal Ewam Namgyal Monastic School is part of an historic Buddhist monastic tradition in Upper Mustang, a remote Himalayan region of Nepal close to the Tibetan border.
The school provides young monks with an education rooted in Tibetan Buddhist learning and culture, helping a new generation continue traditions that have been preserved for centuries.
By supporting Pal Ewam Namgyal Monastic School, you will be contributing to the education, care and everyday needs of the young monks who live and study there.
Snow Lion Foundation, Nepal
Helping Tibetan children learn and maintain their cultural identity
Established in 1972, Snow Lion Foundation supports the education and welfare of Tibetan children in Nepal.
Today its network includes nine schools across Nepal, providing education to Tibetan children living in settlements and remote communities. Alongside their wider education, these schools give children the opportunity to learn Tibetan language and maintain a connection with their heritage and culture.
By supporting Snow Lion Foundation, you will help its schools continue providing education and support for Tibetan children growing up in exile.
Jamyang Choling Institute, India
Supporting Tibetan Buddhist nuns in education and monastic life
Jamyang Choling Institute in Dharamsala provides Tibetan Buddhist nuns with the opportunity to undertake extensive study in Buddhist philosophy alongside their monastic practice.
Its nuns follow a rigorous programme of study that can extend over many years, including Buddhist philosophy, debate, memorisation, meditation and monastic discipline. Senior nuns from the Institute were among the pioneering Tibetan Buddhist women to complete the examinations leading to the Geshema degree.
By supporting Jamyang Choling Institute, you will help nuns continue their education, practice and life within the monastic community.
Tibetan Homes Foundation, India
Supporting Tibetan elders with care, dignity and community
Tibetan Homes Foundation was established more than 60 years ago by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and has supported generations of Tibetans living in exile in India.
Alongside its work with Tibetan children and schools, the Foundation provides residential care and support for elderly Tibetans.
By supporting Tibetan Homes Foundation's elderly care programme, you will help provide care and everyday support while enabling older Tibetans to remain part of a Tibetan community and maintain connections with their language, culture and traditions.
Frequently asked questions
What does my regular support help provide?
Your regular donation provides reliable funding to the organisation you choose to support, helping it meet the ongoing needs of the people in its care.
Depending on the organisation, this may contribute towards education, accommodation, food, healthcare and other day-to-day needs, helping Tibetan children, monks, nuns or elders living in exile in India and Nepal.
Can I choose which organisation I support?
Yes. You can choose to support Pal Ewam Namgyal Monastic School, Snow Lion Foundation, Jamyang Choling Institute or Tibetan Homes Foundation.
Your support will be directed to the organisation you choose.
Will I receive updates?
Yes. As a regular supporter, you will receive an annual update about the organisation you have chosen to support.
The update will share news about its work and the community, giving you an opportunity to see how your ongoing support is helping.
Will I be matched with an individual?
No. Your donation supports the organisation and the wider community it cares for rather than one named individual.
If you would like to build a connection with and receive updates about an individual child, you can find out more about our child sponsorship programme.
How is my donation allocated?
80% of your regular donation is distributed to the organisation you have chosen to support, helping contribute towards its work and the needs of the people in its care.
The remaining 20% is retained by Tibet Relief Fund to help cover the costs of administering and managing the programme, including monitoring, safeguarding, supporter communications, governance and fundraising.
Can I claim Gift Aid on my donations?
Yes. If you are a UK taxpayer and meet the Gift Aid requirements, you can add Gift Aid to your regular donations at no extra cost to you.
Gift Aid allows Tibet Relief Fund to claim an additional 25p for every £1 you donate, helping your support go even further.
How long do I need to support an organisation?
There is no fixed length of commitment. Regular giving provides valuable, reliable income that helps our partner organisations plan ahead, and we hope you will continue your support for as long as you are able.
We understand that circumstances can change, and you can amend or cancel your regular donation at any time.
Can I make a one-off donation instead?
Yes. If you would prefer not to give regularly, you can make a one-off donation to the organisation of your choice.
Annual organisational updates are provided to regular supporters.
How do you ensure my donation reaches the organisation I have chosen?
We carry out due diligence on our overseas partners and have agreements in place governing how funds are transferred and used.
Funds are sent through secure banking channels, and our partners provide financial and programme reporting so that we can monitor how the funding we provide is being used.
Why is regular support important?
Regular donations provide dependable funding that our partner organisations can rely on throughout the year.
This helps them continue providing education, care and support while creating places where Tibetan language, culture, traditions and community life can continue for future generations.
