Recovery with Dignity, Rooted in Culture and Community

For young Tibetans living in exile, addiction and mental health challenges are often shaped by trauma, displacement, isolation and uncertainty about the future. Yet culturally appropriate recovery support remains extremely limited.

The Rewa Youth Centre was created to provide something rare — a free, Tibetan-led residential recovery programme where young people can heal in a safe, understanding and culturally grounded environment.

Here, recovery is approached with compassion, dignity and the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to rebuild their life.

Why It Matters Here

Many existing recovery services are either unaffordable or disconnected from the lived experience of Tibetan refugees in India. Without appropriate support, young people struggling with addiction can become increasingly isolated from family, community and opportunity.

The Rewa Youth Centre recognises that recovery is about far more than overcoming substance use. It is about rebuilding confidence, stability, purpose and a sense of belonging after experiences of hardship and dislocation.

For many residents, this is the first place they feel truly understood — and able to begin again.

The people here accepted me with love and care. They didn’t judge me; they believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself.

A Structured Path Toward Recovery

The Rewa Youth Centre provides a six-month residential recovery programme combining emotional support, life skills training and daily structure within a safe, caring environment.

Residents take part in counselling sessions, peer support groups and structured routines that build stability, responsibility and confidence. They also receive practical life skills training that supports emotional resilience and independence.

Vocational activities such as tailoring, woodworking and English help young people develop practical skills and prepare for life beyond the programme, alongside appropriate support for those experiencing trauma or mental health challenges.

Community engagement activities also help residents rebuild trust, reconnect with others and regain a sense of purpose.

The Difference It Makes

Recovery through the Rewa Youth Centre creates lasting change for both individuals and the wider community.

As residents rebuild stability and confidence, they are better able to reconnect with family, access work opportunities and take positive steps toward independent living. Each person leaves the programme with practical skills, stronger self-belief and a renewed sense of direction.

Just as importantly, the Centre offers a safe and understanding environment where young people are treated with dignity, supported without judgement and given the space to begin again.
